Default OT-How much per mile?

This topic has been discussed several times on here before. But I haven't paid much attention to it until now.

Have an associate that would like me to transport a vehicle to another location, drop off, and return with another vehicle. It's a trade deal. I am pretty much the only person he knows that would have the proper equipment to do this for him. He has asked me how much I would do it for. It would be 1,200 miles round trip with an overnight stay.

I bid this job at $1,000 and he freaked.

I figured an average of about 12-13 mpg on a Diesel truck. With an average fuel cost of $1.50 per gallon. With food and one night hotel stay I was guessing my overhead would be in the $400-$500 range.

He thought I smoked my dinner.

How much per mile do transport companies charge to move a boat cross country?

Your numbers on cost are about right. If anything I'd say you came in pretty low... it all depends on what you're pulling.

I don't think that is bad at all. Low end of scale I think to be honest. Tell your buddy to call around see what he gets

I thought it was a fair price. Like most of you mentioned, it is a sort or buddy deal. I'm the only one he knows that he trusts to do it. That's the only reason I even bid it to him.

SS930....I would be pulling a 69 Suburban to Houston, TX, and returning with a '70 Chevy Truck. He did the deal through ebay and needs someone to transport them for him. Funny thing, the other guy said he would pay for the transport, but my bud thought I was too high. Oh well???

If I was doing it for a living it would be different I guess. Just wondered how much per mile most get.

That is CHEAP!!!! I have been quoted the "favor" price of 1.25 a mile.

to give you an idea. I had a corvette transported on an open carrier from San Diego to Detroit and it cost me $900. that was the cheapest price I could find. I even got some quotes from the people that move cars fort GM (reliable ) and they wanted almost double that. Tell him to take it or stop bothering you.

I wouldn't do it for less than that.
