Default Testing the power of the board

I want an aluminum swim platform for my 302. I've seen the stupid fiberglass ones that make the boat look like a Bayliner. The obvious problem is the curved ass end. Anyone ever seen one or know of a shop that can do it?
I've called Extreme Marine in Ohio and they can't or won't help. Thanks.

The boat's not mine, I just wanted to show the transom.

Stuff like this is really easy if you find the right shop. I deal with about twenty-five machine shops in my area and they all can usually help me with this type of project.

I just talked to a shop about a new swim platform for my 36 Outlaw. I fell in love with the Cig Top Gun platforms on the new boats and got the wild idea to have someone make me a custom one with a design I like plus the boat name in it. What they were going to do was make the top out of one piece of billet alumium and have two bolt on supports. I supply the drawing/design and I have it power coated to my liking.

They add the drawing into the CNC furnish the material and machine. An estimated toatl cost complete was around $1600.00. I changed my mind, but the bottom line is don't go to the people that are in the marine industry. Get the phone book out and look for the metal fab shops in your area. Then locate the ones that have CNC machines and the ones that are willing to be easy to do business with and want to help you.

I cannot figure out why Baja butchered the swim platform on the 302.

The biggest problem you will have to overcome is getting the correct radius around the back, and to figure out how to mount the supports under the platform with those two fiberglass extensions that come out on each side of the hull.

It can be done, and I think it can be made to really compliment the looks of the boat.

Hope this helps.

Here is one of the the stock platform off the 36 Outlaw. I was going to use the same dimensions, round the outside edges just a little and make it more like the Cig platform.

I saw a 302 for sale a couple of months ago that had an aluminum platform on it. It was on trader online. the boat was also on ebay. The platform was I think red. Looked pretty good. Thats the only one I've seen.

It's always amazing how what works for one person doesn't work for another. I'm going thru great time and expense right now to have my platform removed for good cause I hate it. The only thing it's good for is banging me in the head when I'm bending over to clean the transom.

Thanks guys. I have a friend here in town that also has a 302. He too is interested in doing this. I think we'll spend some time and draw up some plans then take it to a local machine shop. Two has to be cheaper than one! I'll keep you posted.

29 Outlaw,

The molded platform on the 302 is too small to sit or stand on. If it's wet and you get near it, your going into the water. I want a place to stand and take a piss off the back. I'm tired of people standing on my back seat and "dribbling" on the side of the boat.

Heres what the back end will look like without it.
