Merc HP Specs

Anyone know why Merc suddenly started using new numbers for the 500 525 and 575? They used to state Propshaft Horse power IE 470 for the HP500EFI now they are saying 500 HP. Just wondering.

mercruiser usually uses consumer freindly info as do there competitors(250 pshp),mercury racing likes the bigger hp ratings,flywheel hp!
