Default opinions: hemi or diesel for dodge hd

just wondering about opinions for engine choice for dodge heavy duty. presently have 02 dodge 1500 4x4 with the old 360. towing 00 342 baja, about 10000 lbs. my little half ton is struggling, and gas mileage is awful. anybody out there with the diesel or the hemi? how is the gas mileage both single and trailering? i only tow for 6 months out of the year, so i am not sure about spending the extra dough for a diesel. i like the power but not the noise and vibrations. the hemi seems really responsive, but wondering about gas mileage. any help would be appreciated...

We just traded our Hemi for an Avalanche after 11000 miles and 7 months...10mpg city, 15 hwy.

I had a friend tell me today that he gets 20 mpg hwy and about 16 city with his.

I still have my CTD HO Auto that I bought a few weeks after the Hemi just for towing. 20 mpg city and about 23 hwy...I got about 12 mpg towing 11000 lbs. The thing with the dually is that 60-65 is optimum speed. If I went 75mph towing my mileage would drop down to about 9.5 mpg. The first tank I got 11 mpg and at about 10000 miles the mileage really jumps.

I would highly recommend the new CTD because in the long run you will come out way ahead....

Definetly the diesel. You don't know how much a truck cost until you go to sell it. It is hard to unload a used gas powered HD. You will recoup the difference in price when you go to sell.

The newer Cummins are much quieter than the older ones, and the performance is impressive.

I'd go with the diesel.
