What gets the chalky look off an outdrive? I used hull cleaner on them a month ago when winterizing, but it doesn't look like I even touched them.
There's a good recent thread on cleaning hull stains, but anything different or especially effective for removing that oxidized look on black lower units?

Good suggesstions, I also just now heard of using muriatic acid. I'm going to use each of the things here on test patches, - will report best results. But, I'll have to wait until Spring, and/or until I get a stern workdeck installed on my lift, whichever comes last.

I used to use CLR and brush it on with a foam brush. Clean up excellent. Then I discovered the Drive Shower and always put them on my boats. They never chalk up any more. CLR- cheap and won't burn you like Muratic acid can. I have an extra pair of drive showers available with 90 degree tips for $75.00 each ($119 each new)... Interested?? email me @

The lake that I go to has alot of particals in the water and if it drys, CLR won't hardly touch it and requires a lot of elbow grease. Most of us there use this stuff and it works better that I can even tell you about. Our hulls will turn yellow over time and I have spent countless hours with a buffer on previous boats. Spray this on, and and the yellow is gone, the white buildup on the prop and out drive literally runs off. Absolutely no scrubbing. They won't sell it to individuals, but call them and they will tell you who is a local dealer. If there isn't one, talk one of your local marine places into getting it and they can quit stocking all the other crap they sell.
The marine version isn't on their web site also, and they say it is a different blend. Hope this helps.

Interesting . . . A salt that works like an acid. I'll be making some calls 'cause I can see etch apps in construction.
It's a shame I just bought some CLR, Works Shower & Bath, and Works Toilet Bowl for the big experiment this Spring.
