I just purchased a 1977 performer 400. I was told that it is a copy of a Wellcraft Excalibur, that was built in Fl. between 1977 and 1982, then Wellcraft supposedly shut them down, but I can't find anything about this company, does anybody regognise this boat. It is a project boat boat and I liked the style of it so bought it. I did see one on e-bay but it was a tripple stern drive flat deck, when i called the shop selling it he did not know the history of the boat or company.
Any help would be great thanks.

That's surely a Performer. A buddy of mine has a 36' Flat deck race boat and also another guy have a 40' flat deck race boat. From what I understand from them Cigarette made them or they were copied from Cig. in Miami. Here in the islands were 3'-5' are the norm, boat like those eat the waves for snacks.
The only difference your's have is that it seemed to have been customized to a cruiser. Their's has no side port windows, windshield, etc. and powered by 572ci or more. Interestingly enough, the engine vents at the rear can be found on older Bertrams.
Hope it helps.

So you think they were made by cigarette? Maybe I'll post there see if anybody recognizes it there.
This one is a tall deck, it has 5'11" headroom at the companionway and 5'8" at the v-birth, which is about 8" more than I need, better to have to much than not enough.
This is definitely an express cruiser, bbc inboards, 12,000lbs. At least it will have some style, better than the weekender the wife wanted
The guy did tell that it handled big water great.
Any other info appreciated
