Default electric water pumps?

Anyone ever use them in a boating application. I was thinking of trying them since I need a pump anyway. Just wondering if they will work and hold up in a marine enviroment.

The only ones that I know of are for a drag racing application where the pump is driven off the battery. Obviously the battery and pump only has to last for a quarter mile. The circ pump on the marine engine really only serves to restrict the water flow, so going with an electric pump would be an expensive option that would be unreliable and deliver no performance gain. Now that is not true for the electric superchargers...

They will deliver approx 10 HP over the stock pump at 7500 RPM but they are not for continuous use, plus you would have to rearrange your current accessory pulley configuration to make it work. In another words don't bother.

Sorry, but electric pumps offer NO free hp. If you run them off the battery with no alternator, then there will be no drag and some horse power is "created". But there will be an alternator on his boat, and that alternator will have to work harder to run that motor. If it takes 10hp to turn the mechanical pump, then it's gonna take 11hp to turn the alternator to run the electric pump. It'll take one more hp due to electrical losses and heat generated by the alternator.

They are used for drag racing but I thought they may free up some HP. They say there good for 1200 hours but probably not continous use.
Thanks for the input, I stick with what works.

Stick with the stock pump.I tried the electric pump in a road race application;didn't work.BOB

Well Cord keep in mind that these pumps draw less than 10 amps and regardless of your engine RPMs these will always turn 1500 RPM at the pump motor. I respectfully disagree that turning an alternator with approximate 10 additional amp load is going to have the same affect on the engine as turning a water pump impeller at more than 6000 RPMs. However the bottom line here is that unless you have a drag boat there is no use for them in the marine industry.
