I have a 99 model year Volvo SX drive with ~ 100 hrs on it. After running the out weekend the drive made a slight ticking (almost knock) at idle in neutral. The noise seemed independent of trim position and turning the wheel right and left did nothing. As soon as the drive went into forward or reverse the noise went away. I cannot get the noise to happen again on the flush tee. The gimbel bearing is fairly new (about 30 hrs ago) The drive oil is new and filled to proper level. Any thoughts?

What you are most likely hearing is gear back lash. Without and load they tend to make a bit of a clunking noise.

It's fairly common with Bravo drives too.
