Question TRS drives - parts?

Well, my star board TRS drive is toast. The marina hasn't taken it apart but it stopped working in forward and it has a bunch of metal shavings in it.

So, what to do now? Do I look for a new (rebuilt??) TRS drive or try to get someone to rebuild mine? The guys at the Marina aren't real confident about it since it's so old. They say they can't get parts, etc. etc.

I heard there was someone in Florida with a bunch of TRS drives and parts. Anyone know of him?

Any suggestions??? (Switching to Bravos isn't an option).

bford TRS stuff is easy to find still. You should have no problem getting yours fixed or replaced. I will try and get in touch with some guys in this area and see if I can find ya one. I do not remember is this a left or right hand rotation?

Thanks guys. It is the right hand drive and they're counter rotation so I think it is right rotation. Right?

Look on the end of the prop shaft. See if it has a L or a R stamped on it. If it has a L it is a left. If it has a R or no stamp it is a Right.

Default Lower Only???

Guys - thanks again for your support. Here's the latest.

I just got off the phone with the marina, South Austin Marine (SAM),. First it is a right hand rotation drive. Secondly they said that the upper seems fine. I either need to rebuild the lower or find just a lower.

Any ideas guys?

If it is the lower and it is just the gears you can still get them all and the bearings and they are reasonable. If you get the new ones I understand they they Cryofreeze them now....???? Not sure if that is true or not but just info I have been told. Have some one rebuild the lower. Your uper I would still take apart however just to make sure that parts from the lower did not go up there.

Default Lower unit

My buddy Jim has all the parts, pieces, new and used. I just called him and he has either a right or left lower for $2,500.00

Talk to Jim.
