i would see if i put a superchiller intercooler on a stock 525sc?Would i need to
rejet,is a bigger prop required, or is the gain negligible?thanks

I just saw a past ad in PB about PFM's kit. Also saw a teague tech article on this exact conversion. PFM boasted a 150hp increase. They have to spin the blower harder, change the belt etc. I can send you the teague article if you want. He mentioned jetting changes and increasing the boost to 7#s.
Personally, if I were married to the 525's for a while, I'd do it immediately. The 525's have all the parts to take it and are conservative from merc.

Hot Boat had a simular question in their tech (Tyler Crocket) section a while back. I can't recall for sure, but I believe with all the changes above, they were saying a 50-75hp increase.

Looked back and the pfm ad was the 575sci, not the 525sc. The teague article (525, 200hrs) mentioned changing over to a crossover cooling and bumping the jets a couple of sizes and changing the primary power valves to 10.5. Also suggested a cam upgrade and boost increase to 7#s. Highly recommended an intercooler as well. No horsepower numbers were mentioned in that article, just relative speed increases in a non-step 35' fountain (5+ mph).
The 575sci intercooler upgrade advertised 800ft-lbs torque!! Bruce, could you shed some light on the claimed increases on the 575 vs the 525? why the big disparity? The only thing I can think of is that the 575 probably has a gen VI roller cam vs flat tappet.
Just for the record, it was 865hp.
I do appreciate all your help!!

OK Mr. 865 HP, I stand corrected. The 575 has a 256 blower and throttle body fuel injection so the blower can be turned up and still retain some reasonable efficiency, the twin throttle bodies allow the engine to breath, and the camshaft is intended for blower application. Then by using the Whipple Intercooler, it is extremely efficient compared to other intercoolers. Basicly that starting package has good components, the boost can be turned up with efficiency, the intercooler really performs, the TBI allows good fuel control and the engine makes good power. Most experiments with this package are simply installing a higher pressure/flow pump to the injectors and reprogramming the computer, I feel this is really not the best approach. I would rather install larger injectors and map the computer accordingly, but that is more money. Either way, the results show the engine is capable of great power. Obviously, I am partial to the Whipple Intercooler and I give it alot of credit for the big torque numbers.
