Default Difference between drives

Can someone tell me the difference between these two drives... I thought they are both #6's... why the difference between the skegs?

The upper one is a newer version and is called the "Herring" design(for the swepped back skeg).Probably dry sump too. Bottom one could be dry sump or non-dry sump.
