Sea Ray is has made its way from the top of the list since they became a Brunswick company. The only reason they sell so many boats is because of the name that the Ray family made synomous with quality. Dollar for dollar, the Rinker would be a better buy now. Down the road, the Sea Ray will hold its value better because of the name. As long as you are looking at Brubswick boats, check out Maxum. Same as a Sea Ray, less money. Check out Chaparral as well, more $ then Rinker, but better boat then Rinker, Sea Ray, or Maxum.

I was looking at a 2001 SEA RAY 280 with twin 4.3's with a friend who isn't on here.

I think between the two, you get more for the money with Rinker. I do not see a lot of difference in the construction, detail and quality of components on either boat. But Searay will have way better resale. Both companies build nice boats.

The maxum is in no way the same quality as the Searay. Just get on one and look at the attention to detail and the quality of the componentry. We have been on a couple of new Maxum's and saw delaminating cabin componentry (cheap particle board laminate), no access ladder into the engine compartment and no planking to stand on while performing engine maintenance, and a vinyl strap hold open for the forward stateroom door. There is more, but you get the idea.

We have looked at a couple of Regal cruisers (3860) and they are also very nicely put together with a lot of attention to detail and high quality components.

Sea Rays really hold their value. Decent Quality also.
Can't comment on the Rinker, but I always thought
they were more a value product.
