Default Merc Mechanic Certification?

I was wondering if there are certifications for marine mechanics like ASE for automobiles. Also, how are they trained? Is there a Mercury Marine school?

Just curious

My son is a sophomore in High School and they just had a rep come talk to them from a company called Marine Tech. Institute. I believe it is somehow affiliated with the NASCAR Institute in North Carolina.

Anyway, they gave out a real nice brochure on the school and courses, and I know a Mercury Certification was one of the courses. They have a website also--when I get home I will get it and post it here for you.
My son seemed real interested in it and it is close by in Orlando, Florida--but I think they have other campuses!

Hope this helps!

I went to Merc school many many years ago. The way it was then, you had to be sent as an employee of a Merc Dealer, you couldnt just go.

There is a certification program, available to technicians employed by Merc dealers. Requires quite a bit of training first. It's a good program.
