have given into the fact that a bravo style drive will not hold up on this application. lookig at the arneson, konra, max machine and number 5 and 6 merc. does the arneson rob horsepower like the 6 does.. for the noney does anyone have any suggestions. will arnesons hold up as well as the six?

Jim,
When you make the power change direction you lose power- Bevel gear 90 degree turns are a good example in many drives (twice actually). Theoretically, you still lose some when you turn slightly at the u-joint in an arneson but you have much less loss, more strength, reliability, cooler temps etc.
Good luck!

Arneson's can take the heavy torque of the big diesels... Fountain installed Arneson's on that boat they piloted to Mexico... it had large diesels in it.

From all the information I've gathered ... Cats work better with Arneson surface drives than V hulls...

i would think the arenson would hold most any HP but some real factors to concider ecpecially at LOTO manuveriablity in tight quarters a negative, resale a negative, people to work on a negative. there was a 40 super hawaii at the lake that had surface drives and a big cat that big thinder had and the lake had them i dont think there rearl popular, i personally would not even consider a surface drive,
