Question HELP- quick diagnosis needed!

I have a quick question for the experts on the board.
I have a 35 Cig with 500efi's.
The boat has been in the heated (68 degrees ) shop since October, with the exception of going for a full cover where it sat inside a heated shop as well.

Two days ago I went out to the shop, everything normal.
Today, I go out to finish up some little stuff, and there is a puddle of green oil underneath the boat that had obviously come from the drain plug. Said puddle was about the size of a dollar bill on a clean floor.
I look inside the bilge and discover the oil came from behind and under the port motor, you can see where it ran down the inside of the transom.
Any ideas?

I thought maybe this has happened to someone else before.

Sounds like drive oil. You might want to check if you have drive oil reserviors installed inside your transom. They could have been a bit overfilled and leaked out the vent caps. Sometimes a change in air pressure or temp could allow the oil to slightly expand.

Let us know.

Good Hunting!

Well, I don't know if I qualify, but if it ran down the inside of the transom, then it is probably the seal on the input shaft of the outdrive.
It would leak quit a while before it would run over inside the transom and out the drain.
Are you using the Merc. outdrive oil? green

The quick disconnect for the drive bottle hose is right on the transom assemble on the inside. It is a real loose fit. May be leaking there.

Green oil must be drive lube!
Good idea to check the resevoir first easy to get to and often the culprit then maybe drive seals.

Soory I didn't post it was drive oil. Merc green stuff.
have checked the reservoirs, they are on the front of the motor, seem fine. gotta follow the lines. I'm guessing input shaft seal.
Thanks for the replies!

Start by following the hose back. Maybe you'll get lucky and the hose chafed through. There is a small clip on the upper left side of the gimble assembly. You depress the grey tab and the hose will pop right off like a air line. Check it over really good. Merc did have a service bulletin out for this hose. It apparently was being misrouted by the installers and would chafe.
