A-N-T-H-O-N-Y !! I thought it was the other way around,, magnesium in salt and alum. in fresh,, when I was out at the Sunsation factory, I could have sworn the boats had alum. assuming they were assuming the boat was going to be used in fresh.

I had the mag. on the Baja and it ate away the paint on the skeg before it really did anything to the anodes... i'm thinking alum... for us.

good question,,, though I think the water is MOSTLY fresh up by us,, not even brackish.. so now I'm really confused which ones...

You can only have brackish water when it changes from salt to fresh, as in a river. Sacraficial anodes are made of alum for salt, brackish and fresh. Most parts places only stock alum especially for bravo drives. At least here in FL.

Dan, we are in the Hudson River,,, we are about 50 miles north of NYC the water is mostly all fresh up here. sounds like alum. is the ticket.. thanks

The biggest problem I've seen with sacrificial anodes that have been installed is they weren't properly connected to the metal they were supposed to protect.. The mounting area has to be bare so that the anode and the part are electrically connected.. if they are mounted on a painted surface... they don't work. If the screws mounting the parts are clean enough.. the current will pass through the screws.. but the anodes should be removed and cleaned on a regular basis... as the anode begins to dissolve... it will start to isolate it's self from the base metal it should be protecting. Remove the anode and clean the anode and the mounting area where they connect.

You are probably mistaking magnesium for aluminum... the only anodes I've ever seen are either zinc or magnesium.
