Default does anybody know what this is?

sighted in Britain, looks new and seems to have a funny, trimaran hull shape.

The Bradstone Challenger was built for a timed race around Great Britain. The race was due to start yesterday but was postponed due to weather concerns.

Round Britain Record Attempt There's info on the boat here too.

From the site thanks Iggy.

Bladerunner - A Unique Philosophy

Bladerunner is an 'Air Entrapment Monohull' or AEM. Pioneered by ICE Marine, the AEM is radically different to a conventional monohull, in its dramatic twin tunnels that flare out from either side of the extremely slender twin stepped hull, finishing with sharp knife-like sponsons at the sides.

This unique combination gives the Bladerunner 51 phenomenal aerodynamic lift, improving performance and significantly softening the ride over conventional monohulls by compressing the air inside the tunnels to add a cushioning effect.

Another advantage is that the centre of lift is located much further aft than would be the case in a comparable high performance catamaran, providing a safer and more level ride in rough seas.

Construction:
Hand laid seamless composite structure
Gel coat
Biaxial and undirectional glass fibre with iosphthalic polyester resin
Hull: Balsa core with single skin below water line
Deck: Divinycell foam core sandwich structure
Hull and deck stiffened with longitudinal stringers and transverse bulkheads
12mm acrylic front windscreen
Engines (Inboard Diesel):
Twin 18 litre CAT C18s 1000hp
Performance:
Maximum speed: 80+mph (70+knots)
Fuel capacity:
440 gallons (2000 litres)
Range:
Up to 320 miles
Dimensions:
length: 46 ft (14m)
overall length: 51 ft (15.5m)
beam: 14 ft 6 in (4.4m)
draft: 2 ft 9 in (0.9m)
dry weight: approx. 11 tonnes

OK, thanks guys... I really don't see CAT C18s as being the obvious choice for this kind of thing. I bet it would be faster with two Seateks. However, the biggest problem comes from who's actually holding the current record. It's Fabio Buzzi in his Record! which has four MTU 12V2000 M91 diesels for a total of 6000hp. It has a similar sort of speed capability (approx. 75 mph) but it's a 30 ton boat (dry) which is quite a significant advantage in anything but perfectly flat water. Also, Record! has enough range to avoid fuel stops which these guys will have to do. In other words, I think they are the underdogs, the outsiders... which makes this so fun. I wish them success.

This boat recently set the 'round Britain record', in under 30 hours.

FYI, the tooling (plug and moulds) were built in the US for ICE Marine, as it was more cost effective.

It runs 82mph and is 52 feet long.
