500EFI Alternator

500EFI Alternator
The alternator died on my 500EFI over the weekend. And just a side note,the alarms do go off at 10 volts and fuel injection stops shortly after that.
Anyway, the local alternator shop says he can not get parts to rebuild the "Korean" Delco alternator. So I called a few places myself and found others also called the alternator disposable.
Merc wants $485 and has replaced the original with a new number 889955T01 but I don't what the difference is. Merc says they are out of stock on the new number. It appears that only the 500EFI and the 575 use this alternator.
Has anyone sucessfully got their alternator repaired? Where at and how much?
