looking at a 1000 watt honda portable generator for the boat. does any body know if i can plug my shore power into it and have it run my on board charger to keep my battries up while using my 12 v fan and other 12v systems on the boat. is anybody using one now and if so where do you put it while running.

Actually the 1000EU is a favorite of the blowbote crowd for that very reason. They run them to pump up the batteries without running the old Atomic 4
It will not run much else but it can do a nice job refreshing the batteries. It will sit on the swim platform nicely and they are super quiet. If you want to run a small AC or some other goodies look at a 2000 EU-still quiet but can put out the juice. I think both of them have 12V outputs for charging batteries direct also.

the EU2000i is only a tiny bit larger, a tiny bit heavier, has a bit larger tank and can run for a little longer, and puts out more juice.
But, yes, you can plug the shorepower right into the little generator.
Most chargers are around 350watts.
Small boat fridge is around 45watts.
5000btu AC is around 800watts (but has a big startup surge).
AC fans are more powerful and much cheaper than 12v fans. WalMart has little 8" fans that will blow your hat off for $15. Most of the 12v fans I've seen are weens and cost $30.
