Has anyone found the need for adding air vents on the sides of their Baja 272 engine compartment (through the exterior gelcoat on each side of the upper deck about even with the engine)?
I'm currently running a Procharger M1 blower on a 502 efi and it just seems that there would be very little airflow throught the engine compartment on the factory setup. On my '99, the only path for air to flow into the engine compartment is above the swim platform, under the "valence". It would seem the air turbulence behind the boat when its at speed would really reduce the air flow to the engine compartment particularly for a blower motor. At the very least the reduced flow must raise the engine compartment temp on a hot day.
Has anyone cut simple vent grills (2.5"x17") into the sides of the boat to increase air flow to a blower engine? If so, was their any performance (rpm or engine temp) improvement from the effort. It would seem this would be a simple project that would improve air flow and wouldn't look too bad with white grills on white gelcoat.

I also thought i might not be getting enough air in my 272 and that it needed more vents so i ran with engine cover up 1-2 inches _no difference in rpm's so i quit worrying about it,Smitty
