Well, looks like another 10 grand for me!!! I started to notice a lot of steam out the exhaust, then some blue smoke. I took off my risers and water passages are corroded and evidence of water dripping back into motor. There is supposed to be Inconel exhaust valves, but I doubt it because of the scumbag person who did the work. Could I have tulipped a valve and that is the reason for the smoke?? Can the heads be removed without pulling the motors once the exhaust is off? I can't stand the thought of having to pull these motors again!!!

What boat is it? You should be able to pull the heads without any problem. Go buy a set of Lightning stainless headers. They'll take the salt fine but just like everything else they must be flushed. Headers for a Bravo boat will run around $2,500. Are you getting water in your oil?

No water in oil. The boat is a 31 Sonic.

Blue smoke= oil burning. With leaky exhausts, valve stems corrode, ruin seals, stick valves, possibly flatten cam lobes, etc. Also, the salt water could have corroded the cylinder walls and ruined the rings. This sounds serious. Pull the heads like Lofty said.

I've got about 10 hrs on the boat so far this yr. so hopefully the damage is limited.

Thats what I would do, pull the heads. Drain the block 1st on each side to avoid a big mess. From there you can rotate the engine and check out each cyl wall. If not too bad, do the heads and put it back together for the rest of the season. We only have another couple of months left! Good luck.

Pull the exhaust in the boat and visually inspect the exhaust valves. If water was getting in, you will see some rust, pitting and corrosion on the valves.

How much time do you have on the exhausts??
