Default OSS Announces Fifth Race to be held in Grand Haven

The Offshore Super Series Powerboat Racing Association (OSS) announces its
fifth race of the year to be held in Grand Haven, Mich., from August 12-15. The
2004 Coast Guard City Offshore Challenge will present a five-mile race course
on Lake Michigan, where spectators can walk about one mile along a boardwalk
to the shore and view the race for free.

“The tri-oval race course is lined with State and City Park beaches,” said
Keith Holmes, Race Producer for the 2004 Coast Guard City Offshore Challenge,
who is a co-owner and driver for the #19 Cat Can Do OSS CAT team. “The Coast
Guard City of U.S.A has the luscious blue water of Lake Michigan with sandy
beaches, dunes and lots of forestry in the back drop for viewers. There’s not a
bad seat in the house.”

Grand Haven, where the Coast Guard originated, has not hosted a national
powerboat race since 1992. With 2,200 miles of shoreline in Michigan and the
largest state registry of boat owners, it is easy to imagine why past events have
drawn the biggest crowds around.

“This is going to be a spectacular, national event,” said Rebecca Nicosia,
Assistant Race Producer, who will also serve as Venue Director and a Media
Coordinator. “We haven’t had a race like this since the early 1990s when we drew
crowds of 400,000, and some 5,000 to 6,000 spectator boats are expected.”

Nicosia indicated that spectators may purchase wristbands for the Festival
weekend that will include a Friday night party at the Race Village and special
access to participating merchants.

“Wristbands are available through Star Tickets Plus at 877-548-5335 or
starticketsplus.com for a pre-sale price of $12, or guests may purchase a wristband
at the gate for $15,” said Nicosia. “The wristbands will provide unlimited
access to wet and dry pit areas, and participating downtown businesses will
wave a cover charge for those with wristbands.”

Getting into some of the hot spots downtown will be exciting for fans. Some
teams will sign autographs during a Downtown Block Party on Saturday evening,
and boats can be viewed while parked at the dry pits at Harbor Island (just
off U.S. 31 at the drawbridge) or in the harbor at the Municipal Arena. For

OSS is a not for profit organization dedicated to the further development and
growth of offshore powerboat racing in North America. For more information,

Hey D-law and Downtown 42 it is were you can race and have a set of rules not written in pencil like alot of other race organizations so you can either support it or not but it is aperant that you clowns are not willing to give it a chance,so shut your pie holes or prove to all of us that someone has something better to offer, not OPA with there p classes because they are not structured properly, they are trying but still not correct,SBI is OK because that is where everybody goes because they or there boats do not work in other organizations and APBA where you do not know what the hell is going on,dont get me wrong Bob Bull is a great guy but he has some huge hurdles to overcome because of M Alweiss,I agree that the sport should only have one sanctioning body but we do not have that yet and probably never will because of the nature of the sport but bashing a organization or not giving them a chance is not helping at all but only hurting so lets see what happens and go from there.Support them all in one way ore another and maybe they will all see that they should all work together and not against one another, just my 2 Cents.

Gee, thats funny.... you ought to take a look at the boat count at the recent APBA/SBI races, pretty good!! Now the worlds with all three of us together, looks like it may be time for the OSS guys to stop pouting and help turn this into a 1 organization sport.

OSS St Clair hurt the Milw APBA and themselves by scheduling the same weekend. With Ale-ass out of the picture, maybe things can get to the better. All we're doing is going backward.

Backwards???

APBA and SBI are now racing together.

SBI, APBA, OSS, and OPA all in Key West racing together, I'd hardly call that moving backwards.

Things don't happen overnight. And OSS may never come back to APBA, but so what as long as everyone races together at the end of the year, it's all good. Support boat racing in general, taking shots at another organization doesn't help anyone. I guess now that APBA and SBI are in a lovefest, OSS is an easy target.

You are making the announcement 7 days prior to the race?
