They basically called it "a race with an open bar". Well not on our run, we don't allow alcohol for the drivers during the run. Afterwards is a different story.

Thanks.
Leave it to the lawyers:
"Poker Run"--an all-day speedboat race from yacht club to yacht club.
Water on the Water, Beer on The Pier! That is our moto.

Thanks Lenny,
You present a great point for all Poker Run organizers and powerboaters in general. The Oshkosh Runs have been alcohol free during the regatta for 11 years, and for good reason. One of the biggest reasons we hold Poker Run events is to promote safe boating with performance boats to erase the 'tainted' image given to us in the past few years. It's fine to tip a few when back in safe harbor, but to be irresponsible with alcohol while en-route is hurting the sport for all of us...

From the above article:
"In awarding punitive damages, the jury wanted the public to take notice that drinking alcoholic beverages and operating an offshore racing boat do not mix.."
Really? (Actually, drinking and operating ANY boat doesn't mix.)
A number of people on this board started pushing for these types of guidelines several years ago. While our efforts were resonably well supported, many Poker Run organizers did not (AND STILL WON'T) put this in writing at their events. Shame on you!
Don't even start me on the lack of vests and killswitch lanyards....
Pay attention, organizers and participants: Look up what "Punitive damages" entails and clean up your houses.

Didn't have a 38 Scarrab, I am a Wisconsinite but refuse to wear cheeze on my head, and agree far too few people are taking saftey seriously. I know poker runs are to have a good time and wearing PFD's, kill switches etc spoils the fun (the girls dont look the same with a PFD on) but there have been a few accidents this year again, here we go with another insurance issue and the last thing we want is to have the US Gov or states stepping in with controls.
