6.0L Ford or 5.9L Cummins Dodge tow vehicle
#1
Ok, I've heard some stuff coming from both sides on this issue.
Want some opinons here on which one to buy or if they are a wash.
I've been a Ford guy all my life and was leaning towards the 6.0L but some seem to think they are junk. Heard of past injector issues with them, but they seem to be resolved.
The 2005 Ford seems to be a step above the rest with the onboard brakes system, but I can't get myself to buy new and take the 1st year hit.
How long do these diesel's last and what kind of difference in towing can I expect from an 02 F150 w/5.4L?
Any opinions?
Jeff

im a ford guy myself and i also admire the looks of a dodge. i just got a f-450 with the 6.0 and love it. i tow around a cafe racer with ease and have been very happy. buddy of mine has a dodge 3500 and its sweet but he is not very happy with it. he wishes he got the ford. as with every new option, as with a engine it will have bugs. thats a no brainer, no car or truck maker is above that. in my eyes the bugs have been worked out and im super happy with the 450... as far as how long will one last, well i keep my work trucks at least 5-8 yrs. this one i have now, id be glad to role around for the next decade...

I have had the pleasure of owning 2 duallys,1 2003 with the 7.3 turbo this one disapeared at the poker run in canada. My current truck 2004 with the 6.0 and beefier trans 30,000 miles and never a problem with either,I prefer the 6.0 its got balls.Looked at the dodge not a true crew cab and a noisy sun of a *****.

this was one of the problems my buddy had, very noisy and the tranny banged into gear when heavy. well i told him its a truck and this is what trucks do. to be honest i cant believe how nice these newer trucks are. shift so smooth even with a load, and drive like cars. its really a pleasure to drive it around. i find myself wanting to take out my wife in it rather than take her car.
as far as my buddies dodge, i like it, its a heavy truck looks sharp, and he will have it for a long while. we can not compare 7.3 to a 5.4 its just not right. a diesel does not drive like a gas truck, at least that was in the past. i think now a days we really can compare the two, im not a chevy guy, i dont even pay attention to one going down the road. dodge yes, and ford catches my eye everytime. if i had to choose between A dodge and a ford, id go with the ford everytime. but if you were really on the fence, go drive them and you will just buy what you like. either truck will do the job for you its really just a question of what you like.

I'm pulling a 32 footer ( maybe 9000# total ) with a new Dodge Ram
2500 Cummins "600" ( 325hp/600ftlb ) - long-bed, auto trans. Could not be happier. The 'new' Cummins is the quietest of ANY new diesel, AND the most powerful, AND the least expensive. Also, the truck that is attached to the Cummins ( this is my second Dodge CTD ) is VASTLY superior to previous Dodge offerings. The ONLY complaint I have is that the rear bumper is not of particularly 'robust' construction. The hitch and brackets are, but not the actual chrome bumper itself.
Best advice - go drive one - OF EACH . . . I did, and dropped my money on the Dodge.
