ok guys/gals i need some help here...
i recently purchased a "shark skin" full cover thru cover search.com
the cover is actually made by westland industries, i have had some
of their covers in the past and seemed to be ok.this particular cover
is nylon. i happen to notice a few weeks ago a little discoloration on
the rub rail, over the weekend i took the cover completely off and found
that approx. half of the rub rail had discolored significanly, starting at the
bow (worst area) and running towards the stern. i tried different compounds
and even laquer thinner, nothing touched it. i have made contact with
westland and they admitted that this is a problem, they are sending me an upgraded cover (sumbrella) and said that they will send some cleaner to remove the dicoloration. i am a little skeptical, and i thought that i would through this out to all the baja owners and see who else has encountered this mess.

WOW, sorry to hear this.
I have purchased two covers from them, one for the 272 and one for the 36 Outlaw, but they were both Sunbrella.
Was actually looking at the Sharkskin because I thought it may be lighter and something I woudl be able to carry on poker runs.
Is your rubrail the white rubber type?

i thought that laquer thinner ould do the trick, i will try the acetone over the weekend and let you know... this is not the rubber type insert, it is hard plastic.

The only this I have seen the stainless part discolor was when gasoline was spilled on it. Had a buddy that had his boat in dry storage and the boat above dumped a lot of gas and it ruined his cover, and discolored the rub rail and his prop.
I know they polished like fools for days using everything they could find to clean it up.
Good luck
