APBA Offshore Forges Ahead for 2005

Rossville, GA 10-11-04 - - The APBA Offshore Racing Association is forging ahead with the announcement of the 2005 Schedule of Events under the second year of their Come Race In Our Water Campaign banner.
“One of our goals was to have a solid schedule of events by what is known as the fiscal year end for many companies. With that in place, those teams who want to race with us will be able to move forward contacting those companies for sponsorship, and we can begin our year round marketing plans for each venue to increase the exposure for all of the events and teams on our Tour,” said Jim Poplin.
Poplin, President of the APBA Offshore Racing Association announced the schedule on Saturday at the General Membership Meeting during the APBA Offshore GMC Pro Grade National Championships in Deerfield Beach this past weekend.
“We have spent much of the year fine tuning our programs, restructuring operations and locking in a solid financial plan and with that in place, we have been able to bring in a few new venues, as well as regain a few sites and producers that have been assets in the past. The combination adds up to an outstanding APBA Offshore National Tour for 2005 and beyond. ”
The 2005 APBA Offshore National Series Tour includes the season opener, April 29th to May 1st in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, followed by May 12th thru 15th in Marathon, Florida. Teams return to Port Huron, Michigan over the weekend of June 9th thru 12th, then join Super Boat International for the Annual Suncoast Offshore Grand Prix in Sarasota, Florida over the 4th of July holiday, July 1st – 3rd, 2005.
The remainder of the 2005 season includes a return both to Buffalo, New York on July 21st through the 24th, as well as Milwaukee, Wisconsin, August 11th thru 14th where the offshore races will premier during the Air & Sea Show.
The 2004 Emerald Coast Offshore Gran Prix, cancelled due to damage from Hurricane Ivan when it made landfall in the Fort Walton Beach – Destin – Okaloosa Island, Florida area, will finally have its race over the weekend of September 15th – 18th – 2005.
New to the lineup will be the host venue to the 2004 APBA Offshore National Championship Speed Week in Chattanooga, Tennessee, over the week of October 12th thru the 16th. The event will begin on Wednesday and include the prestigious APBA – UIM World Kilo Speed Records on Thursday, Closed Course Speed Record Runs on Friday and two days of offshore racing on Saturday and Sunday.
The APBA Offshore National Championship Awards banquet – a black tie affair will be held on Sunday evening at the famous Chattanooga Choo Choo, the Official Host Hotel and Race Headquarters for the APBA Offshore National Championship Speed Week.
APBA Offshore will host its own 2005 APBA – UIM World Championships with a return to a former APBA Offshore site in Fort Myers Beach, Florida from November 2nd through November 6th, followed by an invitation to join the Super Boat International at their Key West World Championships later in the month.
“All information including schedules, special APBA Offshore Team and Fan Hotel and Travel Specials and other details will be online as they occur through the next few months,” said Michelle May – Schmidt, Director of Communications – Media and Sponsorship Marketing for the Association.
Sanctioned by the 101 year old American Power Boat Association, the APBA Offshore Racing Association is the only offshore powerboat racing organization in America designated to award the prestigious APBA/U.I.M. World Championship and APBA/ U.I.M. sanctioned World Kilo Speed Record Titles in addition to inducting a select few of their National Champions into the legendary APBA Hall of Champions.

What I cannot imagine is where they plan to race in Chattanooga TN. The river is VERY narrow and the lake isn't much wider. It will make for some close racing. Now the speed trials will be perfect for the river as it is straight and always smooth but a race, well that will be interesting.
