I have a friend in Palm Beach we freshened three 525's and upgraded with hydraulic rollers we water tested the boat with three of us and the owner and went 105 on the gps that night i understand there are two types of hulls for the lightning a big step and the older small step sup. the older small step is faster according to my friend I don't know enough about the two to be able to say. His is a small step and it's one hell of a good riding boat. Good Luck Laz Mesa

Just delivered a new 42 2005 with new bottom. The boat has a pair of 525efi's and the recall was 85 mph. Of course that is at the factory with nothing in the boat. I would guess 90mph with another 525efi no problem.

I do not believe that a small step boat would be faster Then the large step boat. Usually the small step 42's are set up for #6 Drives and bigger power Therefore, they have led you to believe they are faster hulls because there is big power in them. Smaller step is for stability at higher speeds.

Highport in Texas sold a triple 575 boat a couple of yrs ago and it was suppose to be just over 100 mph , I would think a 525 would be very close to that. Also the Larger step boats, are faster with the same power but not near as stable, around the 100mph mark and above.
