How much does a TRS out drive weigh?
#1
I need to remove the outdrives to remove the motors for the winter and need to know approx how much the outdrive weighs? Can 2 people remove it by hand once the 6 nuts holding it to the gimble are removed? If not can the eyelet that is cast into the top bearing cover support the weight of the outdrive if I remove it with an hoist? Also am I missing something or is it just 6 nuts holding it to the gimble to remove it? (taking into account the tie bar, trim rams and fluid fill hose are already removed)
Thanks

Yes, the six nuts are all that hold it. The ring cast into the top will hold it no problem. Use a hoist and chain and save your back. 2 people can huff it around but it is very awkward to work with, a cherry picker works great.

I think it's about 100 pounds with a prop.

when craig colabella built my trs, shipped to me with wing plate and lube-the shipping receipt says 174 lbs. take into account the box i built was heavy duty cardboard so knock off 10 or so lbs. it is akward to work with and a engine hoist will help make the job alot easier. yes, just use a shackle and lift with the hole on the top cover. that's what that is for. 2 people can p/u . 3 would be better. e

Somehow, I've always ended up doing by myself. My lift seems to have always been lent out to someone at the time. Maybe that why my backs trashed........
Lift will definately keep you from cussing at it!

phughes69,
By the looks of your transom only I would say that your boat is something like a 1980-82 Wellcraft 377 KAAMA SE or an old early 80's Formula 402 with the stock Merc 475hp 454 twin turbo engines with TRS #2 drives and stock Merc external steering. My guess on the turbos engines is because of the design on your tailpipes as I see them extending out through your transom. Just a guess----am I right???
