Question K Plane Cable Replacement...

Both Tab indicator cables on my Slingshot are bound up just above where they attach to the Kiekaefer tabs. Aside from the nightmare of fishing them through the tube in the engine compartment, what's involved in changing these? Does the bezel on the Bluewater Indicators pop off or do I have to remove the dash panel? BAM told me that if I measured the length of the cables that they could make up some special ones less prone to seizing up. Any suggestions on how to go about changing these would be much appreciated. Lou

Yep, you pretty much have to take the indicator assembly apart. Just removing the bezel/glass cover wont let you change the cable. There's a mounting panel that holds the cable jacket in place with clamps. Then the threaded end is screwed into the indicator pointer. You may be able to get to this from under the dash. Warning: the pointers may have little springs and a little "dowel" pointer that love to fly everywhere when you take it apart.

put a towel below the bezel befor you remove the pointers
better yet just order a couple extra when you order the cable

Your current cables should be marked near the ends, that will tell you the proper length. Duct tape the new cable to the old cable so it will pull right through the long tube. Morse 33 Supreme series are high quality cables.
Good luck

One of mine broke this year too and needs replacing. Are you guys saying that the new cable comes as just the inside cable ( without the red outer tube ) ?

no you replace the entire assembly...outer jacket and all. I usually just tie a short piece of string from one end to the other and cover with duct tape.....this way its flexible and only slightly biger the the cable is now so it can be pulled through without snaging anything. Another thing you can try is to go get a coupler....like if you were joing two threaded ends together and couple the threaded ends of the cable together and pull then through.

I just want to thank those who responded to my thread. While I've responded to other threads and PM'd a few folks, this was my first thread on OSO. I really appreciate the help. Lou
