Default 38 Powerquest

I'm seriously considering the purchase of a used Avenger 1995 - 2001, what is the opinions on the board.

And do you think that I'll be able to see the mid 80's, without having something that breaks Bravo's every other outing?

If it is a 95 then you will NOT see mid 80's on Bravo's (non stepped hull)

My 98 will do a little over 80 with 550hp on each side (stepped hull) from what I have heard the non stepped Avengers are a good 10 mph slower.

Great boat, even better company.
Buy the newest one you can.

Good link CAPO, I have been eyeing that boat even in our colors! Just trying to get the real scoop, seems like at that power/size that they might be Bravo busters. Can't have that happening, the wifey would probably put a FOR SALE sign on it and we would be in a Bluewater yacht, several years ahead of schedule!

Sun 28,
There is a 95 in the classifieds the owner's name is Mike Conniff. I talked to him last month. He seems like a nice guy and his boat looks great. It will do almost 80 and has 600sc with ssm #5 drives(all factory) so you will not be breaking bravos. I wanted the boat but it is not in the cards right now. He is located in southeast Michigan so he is not far from you. Just a thought. He seems to be priced right. I really like those 38 Avengers.

If I recall correctly, 1999 was the first year of the stepped 38'. This year hull had some issues and was re-designed in 2000. After it was re-designed it ran great! I was in a 2001 with 500 efi and bravo that ran 77-79 mph, depending on #people and gas.

Maybe Merc. 575s would get you to the 85mph range.

The only way you will see the 80's with a 38 PQ is either with really big power or on a trailer. A friend of mine has a 2001 with 502's and is lucky to see the high 60's. It is a nice boat but is not the fastest in its class. It really depends on what you want performance, comfort or a combination above.

I don't personally know the owner of the boat in the link CAPO71 listed, but he is the brother-in-law of a good friend of mine. I have been told several times he is the pickiest person born to this earth. My understanding is that the boat is as perfect as it can get and maintained to the nth degree.

Well I want to make sure that this thread doesn't get off track. I have looked at about everything else out there and the 38 PQ seems to best fit our needs/wants in a boat in the comfort/speed/cost equation.

So the question is can I get one into the mid 80's (maybe Whipples or ProChargers, if needed) and not be breaking Bravos. Probably a stupid question, superchargers break them all! LOL
