Jesel Sportsman and Other Shaft Rockers
#1
I've read on the board that The Jesel Sportsman rocker setup had some initial problems.
Have they been resolved?
Anyone using them with what results?
Seems that this would be a good step up from a roller rocker setup.
Is it money(more
)better spent to go to the Jesel Competition or another brand?
Suggestions?
Thanks,
Dennis

Dennis,
My engine builder suggested them and I told him that I have heard some of them having problems and his response was that he has used several sets on many of his offshore non-race engine combinations for a few years now and hasn't heard a peep out those customers. I have the Jessel Sportsman's shaft mount rockers on my engines. They are brand new and I have not run them yet. My engine builder said he hasn't had ONE problem with them, and he also said he doesn't know on what other applications, etc that the other guys installed them who have had problems, but he only uses them on hydraulic cam engine applications. He said they are much better than the 1965 stud mounted design, but that they MUST be installed correctly. You can call him if you want. Just send me an e-mail or PM.

Had this conversation with Jessel. The sportsman series is for the non-severe application. There is a difference in the fulcrum in the competetion series. They are a way more precise built rocker that's made to outlast and withstand severe spring pressures without premature failure. There is a price difference also. Remember, you get what you pay for.
My brother races drag cars. He has had many of his friends try the sportsman series. Now take into consideration, the applications are with 7-8 second cars that are using 600 cu.in engines, spraying 450-500 hp nitrious on top of a 1100-1200 hp engines to start. Many of these rockers failed. They switched to the competion series, or the T&D like we use, and never had any problems.
If longivity is what you're lookin for, I'd go with the better of the 2.
