On the 500efi motors they come black with the Merc Blue top end and accessory's on the front are blue.

My question is would you go back with the Black blocks and heads or the Merc Blue?

The Merc blue is not a high temp paint .

Would that be too much blue on the motors?

If I go with the Blue Whipples I know that would be too much Blue

On the Whipples the kit gets ride on the water cir on the front of the motor ,so that should clean it up some.

Paint the motors all blue and use the polished whipples

Im sure you know, but make sure you strip the old paint well. I have painted 2 sets of engines, one started flaking on the dyno. The next i used aircraft grade stripper and stripped it down to bare metal. Looks great now. I say no black, although with the 500efi pulley setup you cant really see the block.

The blocks and heads have been thru a stainless steel shot tumbler. there bare naked

I painted one all blue and went back to the black. Too much blue. I like the look of the polished Whipple but do not care for the maintenance of polished aluminum. Either you have to polish it often or it starts looking bad. I made myself come to the conclusion, either its painted or its stainless.

On bare blocks I have used acid etch primer, black engine enamel, and clear coated with Dupont Chroma Clear. That holds up real well. The Chroma Clear works real well on top of Merc's spray can Hi Perf Blue also.

Blue! We pay alot of money to run blue engines. Lots of boaters paint their engines Merc racing blue to try and LOOK like they have the real blue engines! Why go black? It will look asthough you supercharged any old 502 block, and bolted hp valve covers on it. My two cents!

Mine is painted all blue. Looks good in my opinion with polished valve covers, CMI's and all accessoires painted black. I have stock 454 pulleys (black) insted of the blue 500HP ones.

Well, holly crap, I'm an idoit! I've owned one for four years, wrnched on it, cleaned it, maintained it, and I thought the block was blue. My Very Bad. I should just delet my previuose post.

I am getting two 540's built this winter, and I going to do it all blue. You will still get some black contrast through the hoses and belts. Add some polished accessories and it should look sweet. IMO
