Is this a Bravo or an Alpha?

Looks like a Bravo but it's hard to tell from the angle. If the engine has a belt driven seawater pump it's a Bravo...no pump it's an Alpha

bravo, can tell by the trim rams.

It looks to be a Bravo. The end cap on the upper unit has three bolts on the rear, two being on the top and one on the bottom. Looks to be in a Donzi 22zx, what engine is in it. If it has a BBC, it should have come with a Bravo.

This is what an Alpha looks like, the new ones look a little diff though.

It's powered by a 7.4 mpi, is that a 454? It is a 22zx. I'm looking for one to buy. How do I tell if it's a good engine and outdrive? Are there any tell tale signs it's been abused?

Go to a mechanic, they can hook up a scan tool to tell you how long engine has been at x rpm.

I don't think that always applies. At least it doesn't to my '99 502's. Maybe to the 500 efi's??
