measuring tongue weight?

I seem to remember reading somewhere a formula with a board and block that would allow someone to calculate tongue weight using regular bathroom scales. Did I dream this up, or does someone know how to do this?

Thanks Payton...But I already knew that part. I am hauling 10,000 to 10,500 depending on fuel etc. I wanted 800-1,000lbs of tongue weight so that thread confirms what I thought I needed. The problem is how do I measure tongue weight with a scale that only goes to about 300lbs.
Anyone else have any ideas?

You can always go to a public truck scale and weigh the truck empty.... then come back with the boat connected to the truck... only weigh just the truck with the trailer axles off the scale... That will tell you the exact amount of tongue weight. You may have to make a slight correction for the amount of fuel burned in the truck.

I have heard stories of guys placing a bathroom scale under the stand... I've also heard stories of guys placing a board under the tongue stand with the stand in the middle... and one side on the scale... and the other side on a block.... Theoretically it doubles the capacity of the scale. But how accurate do you want to be?... I say just go to the public scale and weigh the truck... then the truck with the boat connected... then you can weigh the trailer axles and learn the true weight of the tongue and the boat.

I can read minds
Actually, I have a new boat and know I need to adjust the boat forward/ backward on the trailer. I towed it last week and got the tail wag at 75mph.

Then if you truly want to know just the weight of the boat... go back with the boat off the trailer and do it all over again. Simple math will tell you the weight of the boat and the weight of the trailer seperately.

The use of a scale is possible using a 4 by 4 and some pipe to roll and a statics deal.......I started to type it out but it got confusing...and I am lazy. I .....here is a link that explains it too...the whole pics worth 1000 words deal.
