but da*n it, the flight is the morning of Jan. 1st! Our hotel is at the corner of Canal and Bourbon. So is that a "good" part of town?

Yes. The hotel should be nice, too. The restaurant in there is Bourbon House Seafood or something like that. It is a Brennan's family restaurant, but not one of their better ones in my opinion. Still pretty good, though. Try Mr. B's down Iberville first.
