Default New Boat Search Help Needed

I'm in the market for a 26-29' semi-performance boat. By that I mean something along the lines a Formula SS model. I'm needing a larger cockpit than what most performance boats offer. Does anyone one else have any suggestions on other manufactures and models that would offer some extra room??? The Formula I love but just want to make sure I'm not missing anything.

Before I bought our 312 I was really impressed with the Monterey 298ss. It can run in the 60's and has a cabin w/ an aft cabin (sort of). Look into it......also much cheaper than Formula.

I just happen to come back from the Chicago Boat show and the Moterey 268SS was one I did give a good look at. They had a new 2004 for $59,000 compared to $79,000 for the Formula. Nice looking boat but the one they had only had a 350 mag. Seemed a bit underpowered and is why I think thye still have it.

the 298 I liked had twin 350/300hps (60+ mph). Never considered the 268. Loved the cabin on the 298, that thing is almost 32 ft long!
Have you considered an open bow? Also, I have been impressed with Rinker....there not as good as Formula obviously, but for the money I like them. Many models/ manufacturers to choose from in that size range....good luck.

WE run on Lake Michigan and every once in a while hit some bad weather and just need someplace for the wife and kids to take shelter while dad takes a pounding.

VeeCat, Thanks for the offer but I'm trying to stay with a single as well as need to trailer. I'm a neat freak and can't stand the filth that comes with leaving a boat in the water.

These are beautiful!!! I did look at one in Chicago the other day at the show. Another very nice ride is that new Chris Craft. About the same price at $320,000.
I'm trying to stay under $50,000. I must say for someone wanting a semi-go fast with some high end luxury this is the boat!

PQConquest.... I was on the 248 Monterey and thought the cabin was nice, but haven't been able to find a 268 to get on. Did you happen to compare these two boats? I'm wondering if the 268 has any more cabin head room than the 248 does? Or if the cabin is any bigger than the 248. It might be same boat with longer stern which would mean same cabin. I'm 6'2" and the head was just a little short in the 248. I thought the Monterey really puts together a nice boat, I was impressed. I'd love the 298, but it's illegal to tow over 8'6" here.

Chaparral makes a 28, but again, it's 9'3" wide....
