I went and looked at a 1990 Top Gun that has been on/off Ebay and presently back on. The asking price was 72 K and the auction is in the 50 K range. The boat is a repo and is at the Waters Edge dealership outside Detroit. I'm not planning on buying it primary because the wife wants a full cabin.
This T.G. has a half cabin with becnh seats on each side and nothing else. I looked forward of the snapped in cover and the hull lay-up seems thin, actually thinner than that in my Fountain. Since sturdyness is a Cigarette quality I'm thinking this may be a Kevlar hull and possibly a race boat converted to pleasure. The hull is extremely solid/hard near the waterline and at bulkheads and transom plus the bottom but elsewhere the sides just seemed thin.
Cosmeticallty the hull was in very good condition. The drives and steering linkage also looked very good. The engines and exhausts were also in great shape but some ogf the accesories showed wear. Upolstery is acceptable but due for recover.
Back to the Kevlar question. Could this hull be Kevlar ? How does one tell ?

Take your pistola with you and shoot it. If it's Kevlar...it'll bounce right off!!!

I once looked at a kevlar boat. I think that if you rap the hull side with your hand/fist/knuckles and it sounds like a drum, it's kevlar. If it's a dull, solid thump it's fiberglass. I can't guarantee it, but try it.
