Went to the Detroit Boat Show today

Nice show, fair amount of eye candy for the offshore types. There was a new 39 Cig, a couple 380 Powerquests, a new Cig 30 Vice, a 280 PQ, numerous Bajas, and the Formula from Ohio had a nice display (400SS, 330SS, 280SS, and a pair of 260SS, 353, 292, and 4 or 5 cruisers as well). Sunsation had a 32 Mid-Cabin and a 288, and Nordic had a number of boats as well.
Here's ace boat tester Morgan Leigh giving her opinion of the Formula 353 (ignore the fat putz next to her - don't know how that guy got in the picture!).

Funny story - we're checking out the Formula SS boats (oh, man, we are *very* tempted...) and here's the exchange I have with my daugther:
Me: "See pumpkin, there's two seats right here (pointing out the double helm seat). You can sit right here next to Daddy while he drives, because you're the first mate."
Morgan: "No Daddy, you can sit here. *I'm* going to drive."

This is after we looked at the 353 - first thing she wanted to know is where is the driver's seat. She's running around the boat to each seat (bench, passenger bolster, etc) "Is this the driver's seat? Is this the driver's seat?" When she got to the helm seat she wanted to get up in the bolster and drive - then she wants to know which way is fast on the throttles!
that's my girl!

Yep, it's through Sunday. Kind of gives you some perspective, too. The dealer that had the Cig's there (J&J maybe?) had the new 39TS, then a 38 Powerquest Poker Run Edition, then the 30 Vice (which has a *small* cockpit - very small!). Price on the 'Gun - about $450K. Price on the 38 PQ - $180K. Now granted, the Cig is a nice boat, but is it 2 1/2 times nicer than the Powerquest?
For that kind of change I think I'd buy the 38 PQ, and a Formula 370SS. Or 15 years worth of gas and insurance!
Anyway it was a much better show than in years past. I'd like to go again to really look, but we're out of town this coming weekend. Might be worth the ride over for some of you west coast types.
