Default Fountain vs. Formula - Honest Question; Sincere Answers Appreciated

Has anyone made the jump from Formula to Fountain. Likes, dislikes, sorry you did it, happy you did it? Have a 382 FasTech now - which is my 4th Formula, considering at least a 42 Lightning. Keeping my options open!

Not looking for brand loyalty - looking for good performance, reliability, factory/dealer support.

Thanx, Wrink

well first of all you'de almost have to as Formula has nothing to offer you in terms of size/speed.

Second...I'd consider a 42 X. There's a couple more feet of usable boat than my 353, it's reasonably priced by today's standards, and it's proven.

I'd have to know the support was there as well as the QC to begin with. I understand positive steps may be being taken in that direction @ Fountain. Formula is about the most approachable, responsive outfit in production boatbuilding.

Tar Heel, on the OSO board went the other way. Went from a 35 Fountain to a 382 Fastech. Maybe he will share his experience with you.

2 great boats , formula is propable a little more comfortable boat as for as creatures of comfort footrests, cup holders head room down below, as for as ride is concerned simular from the 38-42. formula has a deeper freeboard. get in the two and spend some time on the water and make the comparision.

Formula is top notch quality. None finer. The 42 will be smaller than your 38.

My family had a Formula that we used allot before I got the Fountain. The formula is top notch maybe I would say the interior and stuff is even nicer. However they are slower and don't look as cool. As for factory support never had a reason to call formula and some little things on the Fountain the factory was easy to deal with, replaced the stuff for free.

Friend of mine had a 382 with 575's and it ran about 82 mph - has a good ride but tended to chine walk in sloppy water - the fountain will not do that. I have a 38 fever and really like it. You will give up a ton of comfort in the cabin - Formula is a better fit and finish, cabin is useful - the fountain will out perform the formula all day long. 42X with 525's is a hot ticket! Both are good boats though....
