Default Plexiglass repair

A mount for my winshield has cracked.
The crack should not have any structural affects.
Would just like to patch so it's not an eye sore(to me, i'm sure no one else will notice it).
Was thinking of just using some white silicone.
Any other ideas?

Is the mount you are referring to plexiglass? Depending on the type of fracture it is, a product called methyl acetate(spelling could be wrong) can repair plexiglass. You should be able to get it at your local glass shop. Try it on something else before you put it on your boat to see how it will flow!

If it's a crack on acrylic you need to drill a small hole (1/16") to stop it travelling. There are a range of Weldon products you might consider although it's damn near impossible to get it to flow inside the crack. Mounting holes should be polished because any chips in the drilling may start a crack. They should also have a bushing or at least some vynil tubing so the bolts don't start something. Problem is that acrylics tend to expand and contract at a different rate than other polymers so if the mounting isn't bushed it will stress.

Sorry I gave you the wrong name, the stuff is dichloramethane. Again the spelling could be wrong. I got this stuff to fab. filter boxes for an aquarium, from a friend who owns a glass shop. It is just a corrosive for acrylic.

Here are pics, there are actually 2 cracks. They go right through the structure. I can't see how it would crack anymore.
Let me know what you think now.

Ah! I've seen the problem on other boats. Usually what they do is make the threshold a separate piece so that the flex won't crack it. But that doesn't fix your problem. What I'd do is make a small "V" cut with a dremel then inject some MEK into the crack (this is capillary so it will seep in and weld everything together, it's also Weldon 4) then fill in the "V" cut with something that won't make it look so bad (I doubt that it will ever look fabolous). I would use Weldon 40 with a tint or perhaps tint some epoxy (remember when you tint and add some cabosil to double the catalyst or else it'll take days to kick) and at least you'll have something. Haven't heard of dichloramethane but I googled it an it said that rats in California are in some peril, but it is probably a capillary cement that should work.

Maybe I'll just leave them alone if that is the fix, especially if it won't dissappear. I can alway have another peice cut.
Thanks for the help.

BTW, the crack in the door molding is old, the one in the windshield... I can't remember if it was there last yr or not.

I also have a friend w/ a 28 magnum looking to do a new plexi windshield. Can you do this custom too?
And what would he need to send you?
