Help! Iam rebuilding the carb on a friends 7.4 that has been sitting for over 4 yrs, Carb is in bad shape, I tore it down, soaked it, and was cleaning it up and found some parts I didn't remember taking out. Two little balls, little brass square(looks like needle cut off short), a real light spring. Its got to be a check valve or like. Also what is the float setting?

The brass pointy square is the needle valve that control fuel into the carb using the flaot. Bottom piece of part #23 on attached link.
The little ball is a check valve for the accelerator pump circuit. Part #38.
Spring could be one of 2 accelerator pump springs, Idle air control springs, piston springs.

Some units also have a spring-loaded float needle valve. That could be your spring.
The Weber carbs that came on the 7.4 are pretty good units, the old Carter AFB design. Jet changes and other calibrations are a breeze compared to a Holly and the kits with the various jets and step-up spring weights are available from Edelbrock.

So you are rebuilding a friends carb???
and you don't know where some parts go???
and don't remember even seeing them when you took it apart???
don't know the float setting????
Sorry, but do you really think you are qualified for this job??

Carb's back on and runs fine. The ball and brass weight was what I had the question about. Thanks Gary A for the blow up picture. Someone worked on it before and just put the extra ball and a small spring on top of the brass weight. It was the extra parts that the "qualified marine tech" left there that was throwing me.
