whats the max hp a ssm#3'a will handle?

was wondering what the max power a ssm#3'a will handle in a heavy boat (29 35ft mistress)? they a fresh 1.5 to 1 ratio.

i think merc rates them for 750 but then they rate #6's at 1000 but the 6's will handle much more. so how much more than 750 can the 3a's actually handle?

Depends on if it has the net forged upper gears, the older spiral gears are marginal at 750. With net forged 800 is pretty safe, have done 1000 ( @6200 RPM, the torque matters ) with experienced driver no problem.
