hey skater experts
I am looking at a 36 skater to buy, found one that has a transom step with no trim tabs and 6's. I am wondering why, all others seem to have no step and tabs. Is this a good thing.

I am hardly a Skater expert; however when I did my first 36, back in 2002, I was told by Peter that they only put the transom step in for Bravo boats. The below picture is the Skater that was being built for me back in 2002. You can see it has been drilled for SSM#6 and no NO transom step.

Re: hey skater experts
Transom notches dont work with 6's.

Re: hey skater experts
36 skater CL Showtime - has the notch, was a bravo boat and now has sixes - with 525's we can get 3.5% slip @ 118 mph with std set up - 1.5 ratio - the engines need to move all the way forward to get the cg in line - boat will weigh 9,000 lbs with canopy - great boat ans with a little power will go like the wind -

Re: hey skater experts
Boat has tabs - do you need the tabs ??? for sure it the water get more than 3' a little tab helps, but not much - a wet ballast tank takes care of most of the level flight rather than tabs - Boat planes out very easily with VI's and 525 - will stay on plane at very low mph with no tab - the water PU for the ballast tank is on the tab and tabs are used more for water pu to the ballast tank - they are easy enough to add later if you do not have them - If you need tabs then it is bumby out - if it is bumpy then you need to have your CG right, depending on the engines, and total boat weight then engines need to be moved almost to the bulkhead - CG is more important then tabs if it is bumpy out -
If this is a new boat for you and you are purchasing props get a 5 blades the harmonics of a 4 blade are just too loud at low speeds and will drive you crazy - the 5 blades are only noisy in a narrow 500 rpm band range |
Re: hey skater experts
I have never used my tabs.
Notched boats have drive lines (drive shafts) My 40 is notched. Non notched the power can set back farther in the boat. Smaller the boat less room in the engine compartment. CG is everything My 40 planes effortlessly at 1900 RPM, 25 mph 5 blades greatly reduce the harmonic vibration in relationship 4 blades. Bill, got the bug after this past weekend? |

New lowers New canopies Re-painted New hardware Seems like a lot of new stuff for a 1999 boat with only 79 hours. From the pictures, it does look perfect, and seems like it is priced for a quick sale, but it all depends on the boats history. |
Re: hey skater experts
Balance/CG is everything - take time to know what you are buying and before you get it wet check the CG - depending on how you are going to use the boat an aft cg can be fast until it trips up - then you have to get the check book and bandages out - spend the time/money now to balance the boat -

It is going to make someone a really nice boat, you have done lots of recent upgrades and maintenance. The ability to verify that the boat has a good history always helps. Hope it works out for the seller and future buyer. |
Re: hey skater experts
The Boat Is In Super Mint Condition And Perfect It Dosnt Need A Single Thing The New Owner Can Put Any Graffics He Chooses But Looks Cool Like It Is ..theres A New MTI In Powerboat That Is All Yellow And Same Style Interior ///Need To Sell This Boat To Fund A New A Fuel Dragster

Re: hey skater experts
The CG - each boat is a little different - Pete is the best one to get you in the ball park based on year, style and length - If your fuel tanks are centrally located the amount of fuel in the tank will not vari the CG much - quick answer is where are your fuel tanks - body style makes a difference enclosed vs open cockpit - No one owns a skater to go slow - it is imporant on an open cockpit boat to understand if you are getting lift as the air comes over the cockpit - the faster you go the more the factor - like an aircraft wing lift comes from above - the faster laminer air over the top creates lift - you may of may not have lift @ 100 and may not have it @ 150 if you have a lot of turbulence - the lift or lack of it can shift your dynamic cg - so you have a couple of factors to consider - a simple hg or WC guage can get you some of these answers for less that 50 bucks
