Interesting !

Does the fan pull or push air ? As the fan is push air into the bilge it may be competing with Bournellis Principle. Meaning, laminar flow from the deck. Or, airflow from on top of the deck that may produce a low pressure area at the grill.

As the fan is to pull air, is it possible it will create restriction ? Perhaps, ILO or in addition to the grill a reverse blower scoop would scavenge/draw airflow from the bilge.

are they rated to hang a unit from them? i always thought they were supposed to have only downward load. the reason i ask is that i have Hardin Marine motor mount on BBCs and they mount the MSD boxes vertically. i've ran into problems when the isolation mounts broke. I've since increased the sized of the rubber mounts.

and in another boat I've been working on, I changed the spare MSD's to a flat mount so just in case so theres less of a chance of having the boxes break off and cause havoc.

it seems from your pictures your hanging the entire cooler and fan assembly.

Good question. I was very concerned with the amount of force
that the entire assembly would see. Considering they are directly
above the Turbine exhaust.
The mounts are rated for 150lbs each The picture is diseaving
they are about the size of one of those chocolate donuts you
get at the super mart.
I think you mean a shear load when you state "Downward load"

They are threw fastened with 3/8x 16 Stainless bolts.
I am more concerned with the plastic fan breaking off.

I got them at Mcmaster-carr.

Excellent suggestion and quite frankly is exactly what Gary at Fliudyne suggested when given the photo of this.

Some other variables to consider how much air is the main turbine fresh airscoops pulling in? Would the air stall before them. I have 6- 4 inch transom vents. is the engine bay under negative or positive pressure?

I have since made cardboard templates that I am giving to my sheet metal guy to create a small scoop. I cannot go to high with
this fearing it will constrict the main turbine fresh air scoops/inlets
that the grates are directly inline with.

Yes fan does pull. In a static test for 20 minutes measuring the
in and the out of the cooler with a infer red gun. in was 201F
out was 181F. T-stats were overridden and boat was on trailer.
I could not push the airflow from the fan where it is mounted
because it would draw the heat from exhaust at idle and no wakes.
Going to run some in water tests this week.

Interesting ! A wind tunnel would be nice....The static trailer test may not consider the high pressure/low pressure areas created by deck and tunnel, at different speeds....Therefore, scavenging value is not known. Or, opportunity for decreasing/managing deck burble/lift. One test example (though crude), attach streamers to various points on the deck and hatches and go for a run....That may help with scoop design and location....Also, as a proponent of venturis, there may be opportunity for more of your creative thinking...Good Luck !

It is 3/4 inch thick and formed with cast acrylic.

It should make a world of difference in the entire cockpit.

You might give some thought to what THEJOKER said about the sharp edge of your windscreen. There must be something that can be put all the way around to soften that edge...

I really like the paint, the colors and the design. Beautiful boat!

And why would you not want to put Arnesons on it?

KNOT-RIGHT 07-13-2010 04:24 PM

There is a 45 degree chamfer milled across the entire perimeter
in the earlier photos it is not visible.

These photos shows it a little better.
not bad advice on capping it with maybe a wide round molding.

use air not H2O

Come on guys this conversation, currently is all about lightning the boat, reducing weight and keeping water cooling out of the picture. Please catch on to the direction of where G. is going. By eliminating water as a coolant in any way shape or form he could ultimately reduce the boats displacement by nearly 500 lbs. and by doing so potentially increase its top end. The new coolant system will eliminate the external plumbing requirement that a BB blown engine requires for cooling, which is currently already installed in the boat. PS: with the new system the boat has been tested conservatively this past Thursday at just over 102 MPH with good engine oil temperature readings. YA WHO  - :D

I met Danny at the 2001 Ft. Myers race I think it was, or maybe the Corpus race, my memory escapes me. :bong: He had a huge round cage on his right leg I believe it was. He couldn't get around very well at all but he was there...

Danny I hope you're healed now. :)

yes Narragansett bay

the air to liquid exchanger combined with a liquid to liquid cooler
replaced all of this.

http://inlinethumb35.webshots.com/18...600x600Q85.jpg

No more water!

KNOT-RIGHT 08-31-2010 08:31 AM

The liquid to liquid cooler is doing two things cooling the oil
and heating the fuel. This is a plate style exchanger with working pressures of 350psi.

This is installed inline right after the fuel control before the fuel divider.http://inlinethumb06.webshots.com/44...600x600Q85.jpg

No Mikey Artie has unlimited funds and needs something bigger
and new.:drink:

Here is another upgrade.

The former caliper activation system was operated via air.
This worked fairly well however it is complex and heavy.

Brakerite offers a electric over hydraulic system that was originally designed to be used for your disk brakes on your trailer.

This works well as a replacement for the original air system i used.

12 works fine better to much then to little.

Next upgrade will be downsizing the amount of batteries.

Currently running six Blue top optimas.

Thinking on three of these bad boys
