36 Skater Trailer

New to me 36 Skater with Skater Trailer. The way the bunks are set up it makes it difficult to get the boat on those bunks when it is windy. I have ordered what I call tunnel Guides through LCM. I guessing from what I have seen that there is one towards the front and one towards the back of the Hull and they set about an inch or two short of the hull actually resting on them. Do they help??? Any other suggestions?

I've seen them before ,looks like they worked great ,wished we had them on ours instead of the kidz falling off the front of the trailer in the water .:cool-smiley-027:

upright post in the back made of pvc mounted on springs so they will bounce when you hit them coming in to them only need somthing on the back the rear goes down in the water so there is no guide so the post keeps the boat centered as you go on and holds it as you pull out

use the guides. When I received my boat from the factory we were concerned about the measurements. So after the boat was received we made wood templates and later welded the aluminum guides. The boats fits this trailer to a T and the guides work extremely well. These are plastic and the boat slides against the plastic with care.

Skater trailer

Pro 1. This is what i have ordered from Skater. Do you have one in the front of the trailer as well? or just one in the back?
I would assume that the hull doesn't sit on these at all. Are they a couple inches short of the tunnel? Thanks

You should have just called Skater instead of LCM and this would have been a lot easier for you.

There is one in the front and one in the rear.

I will dig up a photo and you will see how they go. You will need to weld/bolt the guards onto the trailer. These are essentially guards to keep the sponsons on the bunks when retrieving rather than to rest upon.

Here is a shot of one with three guards on a trailer

the problem with those is when the trailer is in the water the rear guide is under the water and too deep to help guide the rear of the boat untill you start to pull out thats why the tall guide post i talked about extend out of the water high enough when the trailer is backed in the water to guide the rear of the boat before you pull it out

Skater Trailer

Thanks Rik for the picture. I went through LCM because Randy owed me some stuff, so we are swapping. I only ordered 2, but after looking at your pictures and seeing some of the other comments maybe I should call back and order a third one. Looks like by having one in the middle of the trailer might help hold the back from drifting due to the back one being underwater to much. What are your thoughts? I'm only making a big deal about this because some times it is my wife and I Loading alone and when it's windy it can take a while to get it on the trailer.

I wouldnt worry about the one on the back. It has to be way under the water when your pulling onto the trailer. The one in the middle seems to be the most important one.

It was always a problem with my skater. Never thought of doing anything like this to make it easier.

Rik 10-28-2007 02:06 PM

While it is partially under water, the one in back is actually the most important. If the boat is off center, it will put it back to center and we all know they have to be aligned to get on the trailer.

The more the better.

If it is just you and your wife, try to put the trailer next to the dock on the windward side and put it on by hand. The guides make it easier to get the boat parallel and then push it on.

Skater Trailer

Thanks again Rik. i will make sure to order a third Guide. I couldn't use the dock last time at Lake Mead because of the low water the dock is only on one side and it was the opposite for what I needed due to the wind. The Marinas at Lake Mead are slim pickens. the water level is at a 45 year low. Over 120' low. There are a few marinas we use to launch at that you can't even use anymore.

This is a great thread. I have been thinking about doing this to mine. When I was at the show this weekend one of the trailers also had a walk way down the middle of the trailer. Would the walk way help at all? Has anyone done this yet?

Thanks
Don

They come on the new trailers at no extra charge.

They are welded on so anyone can add these, a piece of 2x4 and some carpet and you will have the same thing.

I have no experience working in metal fabrication, do you think I could use wood ?? I know they would not last long but I imagine if I wrap them in rubber or a thin carpet .................What do you guys think ??

my .02 I think no Xchoke but if your not worried about how long they'll last or what they look like .we're gonna make a template out of 2x4s and then weld it in the shop, paint it, mount it and carpet it .

Xchoke03 12-21-2007 10:15 AM

Hey Runnin if you can tell me exactly what you are using to build the guides with that would be awesome !!!! Maybe then I could call on some freinds to help me out knowing where to start material wise.

If you remember, thanks in advance !!!

.

anyone have any pics of Skater trailers being built?

I'd like to see them being built starting from raw materials to finished Skater trailers.

barrow a skater trailer and do a splash like everyone has with the hulls:poopoo:

noli 12-30-2013 07:07 AM

.

I wouldn't dare do that to Peter, he's a living legend.

Once the factory puts the Skater logo on anything that they build, it means only 1 thing, pure quality, and near perfection

LAriverratt 12-30-2013 08:58 AM

LOL I was joking...it's a sad thing that his hard work has been copied as much as it has that way. I'm really new to all this compared to most so I was shocked to find out that there's really not much that be done about it. any luck on trailer info??

noli 12-30-2013 06:42 PM

.

yes, I got an email. I will share the info once I have it.
