Well it's done, it took over two years but it was well worth the wait. I would like to say thanks to Drew @ Ocean Outboard, Marty @ Diamond and Al @ Johns Custom Boats. Here are a few photos.

Congrats, the boat turned out great!!
|
I think your 28' is one of the best looking I've ever seen. I really like the simple silver/gray paint scheme.
Good luck with that beautiful boat. |
Awesome. Ever think of adding a hint of Red?

Thanks for all the nice comments. I waited for Skater for about 9 months. They had a rush on 28's right when mine was orderd from Power Boats NW. I Bought a off brand alum trailer from FL. and had a freind tow the trailer from FL. to Skater, that was the worst thing I did thur this whole deal. We than towed the 28 to WA. It sat for 10 months while I orderd the gauges, steering, throttles, and the rest of the rigging. The wait @ Diamond was 5 months to have the new ros 280 modified. I bought the motors from Ocean outboard 5 months before I bought the boat. So the truth to be told is I had to buy this boat one pice at a time. The last month the boat went down to CA. to have the final rigging done by Al Stoker. Here are a few photos from start to finish.
First three are from the first trip to Skater. |

Looks Great!
Looking back on things, does it make sense to put together a Skater in the fashion you did (ie hull, trailer, paint, motors, rigging, etc) like a general contractor versus having Skater do everything? Was it cost effective? I probably could word my question better, but nonetheless I'm honestly interested in what you have to say/recommend. Thanks, Dan

Jig
I would say I was ignorant. I thought I could build this cheaper on pice at a time and to be honest it sounded cheaper one part at a time. I tried to build her all out of pocket with out a loan. I really did enjoy buying each part on by one and picking out the parts. I would say that it came in around the same price as if Skater built it at the factory. But it is exactly the way I wanted it.

The transom of the 28
Hi. Great boat, I love the colors. I noticed that the back transom on your 28 is different from other 28's. Why is this?
|
This boat is cut down on the transom for 15" motors....

Few more

weight w/interior, tanks and some rigging.(cleats, fuel fills, lights, cover) also the rigging that was used to lift the boat.
Front weight was #1025 Back weight # 1250 Total was #2275 I am wondering how that compares to other 28's |
I remember that day. Mine was 3500lbs but its the 32B same no motors drives etc. quater canopies.
wow 2275 is 1200lbs lighter. That is a 28 Skater correct not 30? |
yes

Yes it is a 28 not a 30. I dont know when skater changed and stopped putting in a bulkhead behind therear seat with knees that went towards the transom but mine only has a pice of alum that the rear seat bolts to.

Real Nice! Where'd you get those battery boxes?
|
Why didnt you put the batteries forward?Nice rigging job, very clean and tight.
|
I bought the battery boxes from Dana Marine. I didn't want to drill into the core in the floor so I bought the stringer mount plate and then bolted the battery box to the stringer mount.
I never really thought about putting the batteries up foward until I talked to Marty @ Diamond after it was done. http://www.danamarineproducts.com/Pr...TOKEN=98510553 http://www.danamarineproducts.com/Pr...TOKEN=98510553 |

When you guys talk forward on the batteries, Where and how far forward ?? Thanx
It is common to balance the boat that way with 300 Pro Max and 300X but not the 2.5's. With the heavier 300's the boat is a bit more stern heavy and this is noticable in the rougher water conditions. |
all the way forward

Very Nice Looking Package ..Did You Run It Yet????

Forward, meaning in front of your feet forward.
