Looking for a 28 Skater
Hey guys,
Looking for a smoking deal on a used 28 skater. Anyone know of one that's "not" listed for sale online. I have browsed at all of them on various sites that are for sale. I have a budget and most of them are just outta reach. Any help would be appreciated. Would consider most anything as long as the fual tank issue has been repaired. |
What are you looking to spend? There is a nice 1997 with new motors just listed.

Skater
Depends on the boat, power, condition, etc. Lots for sale for big money. Guess thats why they have been for sale a while. I have a budget but it really depends on the boats condition and et-up. What do you have in mind?
|
I've got a 24 that I'm going to be listing soon if you have any intrest

Thanks for the offer, but I am gonna buy a 28. I used to live at lake anna. We used to do the james river run every year in my eliminator. Alot of my friends went this year and had a blast. Hopefully we will haul the new 28 up to it next year. Good luck with the sale of your boat.

It is definatly a buyers market for Anything. I guess if you find someone that really needs the $ you might get lucky.Good luck in your search. You will love the 28! I will keep mine till I buy a 32B or 36:ernaehrung004: |
Offshoresteve
Looked at a couple spectre's and motions. They are not out of the question yet. I have cash in hand. I talked to a few of the people online selling there 28's but they aren't budging too much on their price. I am not in a big hurry, but I would like to buy a boat soon. The economy sucks and I can't justify paying top dollar for anything these days. Like you said "maybe I'll get lucky"......will see. Keep your eyes out for me. I would love to be in the "skater" club. If you get a chance give me a call. I would like to know what to look for in a 28.
Thanks Again Don |
Carl myers 28 skater, " how sweet it is" looks like it just rolled out of the showroom. I don't have his # handy, but google sweetners plus and ask for him and i'm sure they'll point you in the right direction

Not knowing much about anything, it's difficult to offer best advise. However, your question is logical, in so much that there must be a sleeper deal under some rock. With that said, unless you KNOW the boat your looking at, expect surprises. Even then, EXPECT surprises. Granted, with time, money and expertise most problems can be mitigated. Of course, you still have a used boat.
So, for me, I would talk to Skater and get the best rigged price on on a new 28 and also ask for the price to rig the 2006, 28 w/ the 300x's that is in classified. Either way, you have a NEW boat that will have modern rigging, ready to use with warrantee. |
I think carl is looking for 60k for his boat ...killer deal!

saw some pics, looks brand new. My buddy saw it and said it looked like it just rolled out of the factory. I think it's a 95 or a 96 with very low hrs, indoor heated storage. 2.5's it's a open cockpit race/pleasure setup

Not looking to steal one, but not looking to pay retail in this economy. Just want a good, fair deal for both parties. I don't need financing and want to pay cash.
Are you looking for a 2.5 boat, 300x, or 300xs?? The boat mentioned already with the 2.5's looks to be a really well kept boat. If you dont mind testy outboards, the 2.5's are probably your best bet for performance and balance in rough water. The 300x will be the fastest on the top end but would need 15" mids to handle as well as a 2.5 boat. |

Not picky on power. Just want a clean boat that the tanks have been taken care of. Obviously I don't want something thats gonna need power anytime soon. Another words, no 2.5's with 200 hours on them.
If I was looking for a new 28 I would be looking at ones with 250xs or 300xs. Way better fuel economy and dock manners. |

Don't you mean 2.5's with 100 hours on them? If they make 150 hours you will need to rebuild them. I just got done repowering my motion becasue my old 2.5's blew up.

Theres a 28 with TRIPLES listed on boattrader! Ive done just about all the research you could possibly do on the 28 skater market. Theres one on Screamandfly.com that has full paint, great interior, etc but no trailer.. Register and do a search there, you'll find it in the classifieds.. it was the best deal I could find..

I was just being extreme on the hours. 150 hours is max outta some 2.5's. I would like to have xs's but the price puts them up there.
|
Saw the ones on screamandfly and made an offer or two.....but no dice. Don't want trip's, twin's are bad enough. I have another boat so this will only be a toy that will get 30 or 40 hours a year on it. Something will turn up eventually, not in a huge hurry......now.

Any pics yet?

Just FYI, in case anyone hadn't tried this:
If you'll trim the OB's out a little when you're working around the docks, they'll shift & idle much better. |
Don, just bring the 36' Concept up here next year for JOTJ and forget all this cat BS. You already know how boring a small cat is!
|
Hey Brian,
Not getting rid of the 36', just looking for something to play in the triple digits with. I just want the best of both worlds. |

Great Idea!!:drink: Makes the 2.5s shift and keep running when docking....... most of the time.
I'd always heard of the idling issues for those, but when you were trimming them they idled fine! :ernaehrung004: That's a sweet boat! |
