I almost sank my 28 today!
 

My son and I were running our 28 Skater this afternoon for our end of season shake down. My son noticed a large amount of water pouring out of the lower half of the cowling on the port side 300X. The hose from the fresh water flush on the cowling had disconnected from the fitting on the lower cowl pan. Coolant water was flowing freely into the cowl.

We pulled the boat out on the trailer and when I removed the drain plugs there must have been 200 gallons of water in the port sponson pouring out. The water inside the cowling had run down the wiring harness and cable tubes into the port sponson. I was amazed at the volume of water in the short amount of time that had collected in the boat.. The motor never missed a beat. Thank goodness it was fresh water.

Anyone ever have this happen with outboards?

Yikes, glad you had two sets of eyes in the boat. Coulda been ugly.

holy cow, things happen fast. I never would have imagined that one.

You should have 2 bilge pumps one in each sponson.I would think if they were working properly you would have noticed a light signaling they were on.Hopefully your motor will be ok.

I Have two 1200 GPH bilges with auto sensors each side. They did not come on and there are no indicator lights. I will be checking the auto sensors!

The motor is fine.
