28 help

I need some help guys.. Should I have the water ramps put in my bottom or have the water inlets on the lowers modified? does 1 work better than the other? I read someone said he had the ramps put in and still had to have the lowers done..

I put the ramps in the bottom and modified my lowers by cleaning up the holes and moved them back alittle bit.

I had my lowers modified by Diamond Marine 5 years ago when I first bought my present 28 Skater. Besides opening up the water inlet, I also had the cases trued up a little and the torque skeg taken out. I run 2002 300x's on jack plates. After Diamond did the lowers, I was able to lift my engines up enough to get 118 on GPS. Prior to lifting my "X" dimension, I was only able to get 114. My water pressure runs around 17 PSI at the higher X. I sent my Skater to Douglas early this year to do the tanks and had the ramps put in at that time. There was no change in the water pressure. I would guess that my answer to your question would be do the lowers first and open up the inlets as that is what really allowed me to lift the engine up high enough to see a good increase in speed but still maintain adequate water pressure. Good luck.

thank you..

My sons 28, running 300 Pro Max's on set back brackets, has run a best of 115 mph with 3 blades, and runs 110-111 mph with 4 blades. Stock gear cases, water pickups not cleaned up or moved. Has 15 lbs of water pressure at wot. Only water ramps.

Good Luck

To help with your decision, I also run a 15 X 34 3 blade cleaver by BBlades. It added 4 - 5 mph over my stock Mercury cleaver 14.5 X 34 3 blade cleaver. Brett at BBlades is awesome and can add several mph I'm sure to whatever set up you run. If you don't already use him, tell him Garth highly recommends him and ask him for the "recipe" he uses for my props to get the additonal mph.
