thanks blume.....any idea why there always seems to be 5 to 7 mph difference bwtn radar / GPS..... which one is more accurate?

i believe that the angle of the radar detector accounts for some of the difference between the gun and the GPS in the boats. Several years ago i ran the shoot out and my first pass my GPS was showing 79-80, and my recorded speed from the shoot out was 74, i though about it for awhile and on my next pass i moved closer to gun ( that was at shooter then and the gun hung off the cliffs so i got closer to the cliffs ) my next pass and 2 others all recorded 77MPH while my gps was sitting at 79-80. i called it a day and won my class. I have a radar gun that i bought years ago before GPS was so easily available and accurate, use to use it when playing with props and i noticed you could get several different readings depending on the angle of your fixed object you were shooting at. I also learned from playing with the gun that if you deaccellerate rapidly it throws the gun off on the low side, so on occasions when popping over a hill and there sit a radar trap if you climb on the brakes fast your deacceleration will be greter then your speed and will show on the police radar a much lower speed. then what you really are doing. For years before GPS people use to stretch the truth on thier boat speeds (they still do human nature) i would go down below and bring my radar gun out and then ask them how much they wanted to bet! There was more times than not alot of back peddling. We did have alot of fun sitting out in the main channel doing speed runs to see just how fast you were.
